Compress PDF to 100 KB

100 KB is one of the tightest limits you will meet on an upload form. It is enough for one clearly scanned page, or a few pages if you accept softer text. The tool below fits your file just under 100,000 bytes on your own device. No upload in browser modeNo sign-upNo daily limit

Preset to 100 KB. Change it if your form says otherwise. 1 KB = 1,000 bytes here, so the file also passes sites that count 1,024.
⚠️ Output is an image-based PDF (text is not selectable). Other sizes: 200 KB · 300 KB · 500 KB · 1 MB · any size

What fits in 100 KB

At 100 KB the arithmetic is unforgiving. Measured with this tool, a dense A4 page of scanned text costs about 66–74 KB at 72 dpi and 115–146 KB at 100 dpi (JPG quality 72). So one page fits comfortably, two pages fit at around 70 dpi, and anything past three pages has to drop below 50 dpi, where small print turns to grey blur. A PDF exported straight from Word or Google Docs is different: our six-page text export was only 42 KB, because it stores letters, not pictures — leave such files alone.

2photo pages, 1.4 MB97 KB100 dpi · q50clear on screen
3colour text scan, 2.5 MB94 KB46 dpi · q72hard to read
6grey text scan, 6.1 MB99 KB38 dpi · q50hard to read
10mixed scan, 5.0 MB93 KB32 dpi · q35hard to read

Measured on 16 October 2026 with this tool in browser mode on our own test PDFs (synthetic A4 scans with paper noise, which is harder to compress than a clean office scan). Your numbers will differ; cleaner scans get higher resolution. “q” is the JPG quality the tool settled on. Readability labels are a rough guide: 100 dpi and up is clear on screen, 70–100 dpi keeps normal-size text readable, below 50 dpi only large text survives.

Where you will see a 100 KB limit

Limits this small are mostly found on application portals that store many files per person. We have not found an official page we could verify that sets exactly 100 KB for PDFs, so check the notice for your form. Two verified reference points:

If it won’t go below 100 KB, try this

  1. Upload one page per field. If the form has separate boxes for each certificate, split the file with Split PDF and compress each page on its own. One page at 100 KB looks far better than four.
  2. Crop the white margins.Empty paper still costs bytes. Crop PDF first, then compress.
  3. Tick “Black & white”.For a text document, colour carries no information. It saves the most on scans with coloured paper or stamps.
  4. Rescan instead of recompressing a phone photo.Shadows and paper texture are expensive. A flat, evenly lit scan compresses much better.

Questions

Can a 5-page PDF really be 100 KB?

Only with soft, low-resolution pages. In our test a 6-page scan reached 99 KB at 38 dpi, which is hard to read. If the portal allows it, upload fewer pages or split the document.

Why is my 3-page Word PDF already under 100 KB?

Text exported from a word processor is stored as letters and fonts, not as images. A few pages are usually 20–60 KB. The tool checks this and tells you when no compression is needed.

Is 100 KB counted as 100,000 or 102,400 bytes?

Sites differ. We aim for under 100,000 bytes, so the file passes either way.

Will the text stay selectable?

No. Every page becomes an image so the size can be controlled. Keep your original for anything else.
